- There were some 24 nominations that reserved place in Oscar awards for 2020.
- However, only 2 of them managed to grab the Oscar award.
OTT platforms have been constantly delivering with tons and tons of movie series and TV shows (and some are much better in terms of entertainment and hype as compared to mainstream movies running in movie theaters).
Out of 24 nominations, only 2 Oscar movies on Netflix managed to grab an award. Although streaming companies are booming the time is not yet right for OTT platforms to dominate Oscar awards.
Before we tell about the 2 Oscar movies on Netflix, here are 24 nominations:
Oscar Movies on Netflix & Nomination:
1. The Irishman:
That’s the most obvious one on the list. If you have watched this movie, we are pretty sure you’ll have more reasons to drop it in Oscar movies on Netflix.
With multiple academy awards, The Irishman is itself a success. Here are categories below that have Oscar nominations:

2. Marriage Story:
Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story is another hype on Netflix. While the movie was released after some time only a statement was rolled out that Adam Driver & Scarlett Johansson are most likely to get academy award nominations for their highly acclaimed performances as Charlie & Nicole Barber.
A majority of the credit goes to director Noha Baumbach’s idea for the movie that came after the production of The Meyerowitz Stories.
Who knew an idea popped while packing up, had the potential to be one of the Oscar movies on Netflix! Here are the categories for which the movie was nominated of Oscars:

3. Two Popes:
The movie is much relatable to the world we are living in now. It gives us a glimpse of the relationship and harmony between outgoing and incoming popes.
Directed by Fernando Meirelles but the screenplay was adapted by McCarten. Post-release, the movie was praised by a number of critics, it was recognized worldwide.
For 3 nominations, the movie was said to be the oscar movie on Netflix:

4. Klaus:
Klaus is one of the movies which is animated but even the adults have been praising and drooling over it. This animated flick comes from the original story on Santa Claus that Disney thought of dropping (or ignoring).
Thanks to Netflix because of which the world went crazy after Klaus – one of the most interest Oscar movies on Netflix. Without a doubt, Klaus is nominated for the Best Animated Feature Film.
5. I Lost My Body:
I lost my body gives a sense of maturity and thought-provoking story. A French animated movie was nominated in 1 category and goes up against Klaus, Toy Story 4, Missing Link & How To Train Your Dragon.
6. American Factory:
There was one documentary movie nominated for the academy award on behalf of Netflix. Produced by Obamas, American Factory was an insightful flick that takes you through Ohio town competing for head to head with China.
If you like to see how an economy works for the nations, you’ve got to see this one (if you haven’t yet). For the best documentary movie, this was one of the Oscar movies on Netflix.
7. The Edge of Democracy:
A political documentary arrived in the middle year outlines current administration in Brazil and complexities faced by political parties over there.
This one was nominated for the documentary (feature) in Oscar.
8. Life Overtakes Me:
Life Overtakes Me got nominated for the documentary short category. A 40 minutes flick takes you through the life of refugee children residing in Sweden and suffering from Resignation Syndrome.
For another 40 minutes, Netflix was successful in touching your emotions and feelings. Without a doubt, this had to be one of the Oscar movies on Netflix!
And The Award Goes To:
Laura Dern won supporting actress for Marriage Story – A drama about couple’s divorce.
American Factory – the best feature documentary produced by Barack & Michelle Obama’s nascent production house.
Netflix just missed the award for the best picture category in Oscars. The OTT platform’s The Irishman lost to Parasite.
Summing Up:
With 24 nominations, Netflix definitely seemed to grab a good place in the Oscar nominations. But this year Netflix has to go home with 2 awards only.
While it’s competitor Amazon got just 1 Oscar nomination for Les Miserables – A french movie in the Best International Feature category.
The future seems to be bright(est) for our favorite OTT platform Netflix. This year we hope to see more Oscar movies on Netflix.
Netflix rolled out some 371 movies & TV series last year but still, some Hollywood giants are against Netflix’s nomination in Oscars.
