Kishore Biyani-led Future Group business Future Retail Ltd (FRL) has entered into a global e-commerce platform partnership with Amazon India to extend its online presence.
Amazon India will become the approved online sales platform for FRL stores as part of the agreement, and FRL will ensure the inclusion of related FRL stores on the Amazon India marketplace and their services, both companies said in a statement on Monday.
“Amazon and Future Retail share common principles of serving customers everywhere in the best possible way,” said Kishore Biyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Future Retail Limited. “This partnership will allow us to build on the strengths of each other in both physical and digital space so that consumers will benefit from the best services, goods, selection, and prices.”
FRL currently operates over 1,500 stores across different brands including Big Bazaar, its flagship chain, and other smaller neighborhood chains such as EasyDay and Heritage Fresh.
“FRL’s national footprint of stores offering thousands of fashion, appliances, home, kitchen and grocery products will now be available in hours across 25 + cities to millions of customers shopping on Amazon.in,” said Amit Agarwal, SVP & Country Director, Amazon India.
In addition, Future Consumer Ltd (FCL) said it had signed a long-term deal with Amazon Retail India Private Limited (ARIP) to sell online FCL’s brand portfolio.
In food, home care, and personal care and beauty room, Future Consumer has brands and products in multiple categories. Via Future Retail stores, FCL’s goods are currently available offline. Through this partnership, Future Consumer will create an online platform and provide millions of Amazon customers with products from Future Consumer, it said.
“Collaboration with Amazon would extend our brands ‘ scope to new customer sets on the online marketplace of Amazon India. We will work closely with Amazon to build marketing and promotion strategies and look forward to using the technical expertise and resources of Amazon to increase our brands ‘ reach, said Ashi Biyani, Managing Director of Future Group.
Biyani’s group announced in August that Amazon purchased a 49 percent stake in Future Coupons, which owns approximately 7.3 percent stake in Future Retail, via convertible warrants, the company that holds BigBazaar’s retail chain.
The firms also said both organizations will work closely through a dedicated team, exploring synergies in distribution, customer acquisition, and marketing initiatives. Last year, Amazon agreed to acquire a 49% stake in Biyani’s Future Coupons, which owns 7.3% of Future Retail, with the option of purchasing the entire holding at a later stage.
