  • Amazon Prime Day 2019 was live for 2 days, 15th July and 16th July.
  • Prime Members across the globe bought more than 175 million items.

Prime Day was “once again the largest shopping event” in its history, said Amazon.

The volume of sales from its two-day shopping event crossed its sales from Black Friday and Cyber Monday of last year. The company didn’t tell the exact numbers, like revenue. It also rarely reveals the numbers for specific shopping days, with the only glimpse of sales coming in quarterly earnings. During Prime Day Amazon had a sale and offers for it’s Prime Members.

According to Amazon, a record number of Prime Members in the US shopped during the sale. In total, Prime Members across the globe bought more than 175 million items.

Thanking all the Amazonians, CEO Jeff Bezos said in a release, “Members purchased millions of Alexa-enabled devices, received tens of millions of dollars in savings by shopping from Whole Foods Market and bought more than $2 billion of products from independent small and medium-sized businesses.”

Prime Day was also successful for Amazon’s line of deeply discounted gadgets. It was the “biggest event ever” for the electronics, which encompass the Fire TV Stick, Echo smart speakers, and Fire tablets, among others.

Huge Numbers at Sale

Instant Pots and DNA kits were the top-selling items in the United States. Prime Members in the US also bought more than 100,000 laptops, 200,000 TVs and more than 1 million toys.
According to Adobe Analytics. , Prime Day also had a halo effect on Amazon’s competitors. Large retailers, or companies that generate more than $1 billion in revenue, had sales jump 68% over the two-day period. Smaller retailers’ sales also spiked 28% for the same period, a reversal compared to last year when sales declined.
“This suggests that people are comparison shopping more than ever and will open their wallets to those who offer the best deals, regardless of the size of the retailer,” said Jason Woosley, vice president of commerce product and platform at Adobe in a release.

India: Flipkart vs Amazon

Amazon Prime Day may be a dominant power in the U.S., but the internet retail company in India has a large competitor to compete within its huge annual sale. Flipkart‘s sale provides up to 80 percent discounts on equipment, furnishings, apparel, and books, the business featured on its blog and operates until Thursday — a complete two days longer than Amazon’s.

Amazon utilizes the event to hook fresh participants on Prime, a subscription program that counts more than 100 million individuals around the globe as an indispensable aspect of their shopping life, in addition to flexing their bodies and juicing their annual marketing figures.

With festive season starting soon, It will be thrilling to watch these two e-commerce giants go in head to head.
