  • Bisleri captures 70 percent of Indian bottled water market.
  • Angelo George carries 20 years of experience in the FMCG sector.

Emami’s COO Angelo George has been hired by Bisleri international as their first professional CEO.

Bisleri

Bisleri is the Indian beverages company best known for its bottled mineral water Bisleri. Parle Group started manufacturing soft drinks in 1949. When an Italian company called Bisleri launched in 1965, the parle group purchased Bisleri from the Italian owner Signor Bisleri.

It is used as a generic name for mineral water in India. It commands over 70 percent of market share miles ahead of their competitors Coca-Cola’s Kinley and Pepsi’s Aquafina.

Who is Angelo George?

An alumnus of Indian School of Business (ISB) and the prestigious Northwestern University, George is known to be a very humble and grounded leader with a plethora of experience in FMCG sector.

He started his career in Hindustan Unilever where he was the sales area manager for detergents. George served longest in Dabur India for 10 years in sales on different positions.

He then joined Anchor as CEO for almost 3 years. His recent stint was a short one serving as COO for Emami Ltd.

With his experience and expertise, Bisleri will be looking to maintain its supremacy over the mineral water market.

Ramesh Chauhan founder of Bisleri International has retained his position as Chairman said, the company preferred CEO with FMCG background to get the best bet. Chauhan, 78 now led the operations of the company for more than four decades. HR experts believe out-of-the-box thinking can bring positive changes to an organization.

With the next generation not wanting to get involved in the day-to-day running of the business, the best choice was getting a professional CEO. Bisleri International has currently changed the business to divide operations vertically from the earlier system of a zonal representation.

The number of Indian promoter-driven companies such as Aditya Birla, RPG Enterprises, Mahindra & Mahindra, Godrej, and Marico all of them has professional CEOs running operations.

With the bottled water rocketing to 20 percent annually, Bisleri aims to go to the next level of growth using George’s leadership and expertise.
