TikTok is without a doubt the most talked about thing right now in India. Fresh from the two-week ban lifted from the Supreme Court in India, TikTok is looking to keep growing in the Indian market, which the company claims of having more than 120 million users.
TikTok first started showing advertisements to its users in November. It was in last year that we saw several big brands coming to the platform to reach a bigger audience. The best thing about an app like TikTok is its unprecedented reach across the country. It has users from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, which makes it ideal for big brands to reach an audience that they otherwise cannot reach so easily.
Online retailer Voonik was the first to cash-in on this opportunity and grabbed a lot of eyeballs during that phase. The beverage giant Pepsi, multiple e-commerce platforms likes Myntra, Shopclues, Snapdeal, on-demand video apps like Viu and Voot, dating app TanTan and delivery app Dunzo are just a few of the many brands that have already used the platform of TikTok to their benefit.
With more and more brands wanting to associate with TikTok, it just shows how the brands do not care about unnecessary controversies and want to reach the maximum audience. Moreover, the biggest plus of TikTok is that it has a reach within the rural areas of India. Some reports suggest that an average rural user spends close to 106 minutes a day on the app while the urban user spends 7.5 minutes a day. Another factor that works heavily in favour of TikTok is the age group of its audience. Maximum users belong to the age group of 18-35, the age group that most brands want to engage!
There is no doubt in the fact that social media platforms have become a great way to garner more customers and hence more and more brands are banking on such platforms for customer acquisition. It provides an excellent option for apps like Shopclues, Myntra, Snapdeal and various other apps who are not reaching their true potential, due to lack of customers. Shopclues is so keen to bank on this opportunity that they are coming up with a pilot for TikTok as well.
TikTok, currently valued at $75 Billion, is the biggest startup in the world. Now that they have started monetising, the company is only going to grow bigger and bigger. Furthermore, the company has promised the apex court of India that it will keep an even better check on the type of content uploaded on its platform. This should allow it to function smoothly in the coming time.
