Bytedance Ranks 4th Among the Maximum Ad Revenue Global Firms

ByteDance: Parent Company of Tiktok

Bytedance, the Chinese parent firm of Tiktok, has established itself as one of the global firms despite a complete ban from India. In a recent report published by Group M, Bytedance has earned $28 billion in 2020. The short video giant is ahead of e-commerce firm Amazon to occupy a fourth place among the top advertisement revenue firm in the world. Google is the global leader in terms of advertisement revenue from different sources.

Bytedance Joins the League of Top Ad Revenue Companies Globally

Bytedance, the most valuable startup globally, is expanding its operations exponentially worldwide. The firm is in the news due to its entry into the top five global firms that earn maximum revenue from advertisement.

As per the Group M report, Bytedance has achieved fourth-ranking among the global firms that earn maximum revenue from advertisements. The Chinese giant, the owner of the short video app Tiktok, has recorded an ad revenue of $28 billion in 2020. In 2019, the firm collected a total ad revenue of $16 billion.

In 2020, Bytedance operations were restricted in India and the USA. But it did not stop the firm to grow. The startup tried hard to relaunch its operations in India but did not get any success. While Trump’s decision to ban Bytedance’s Tiktok has been canceled by Biden’s administration. The startup is always linked with the Chinese Communist government.

Trump administration told the media that Tiktok is leaking US data to the Chinese military and is spying on Americans. On the other hand, Modi Government cited security and privacy issues while banning Tiktok. But, the border tussle between China and India was the major reason behind the Tiktok ban.

All these negative incidents did not stop Bytedance to grow. Currently, the Chinese giant is the most valuable startup globally. In 2020, Tiktok, owned by Bytedance, was the most nongaming downloaded app globally. In 2021, the app is occupying the top rank among the most downloaded apps worldwide. In May 2021, Tiktok saw total downloads of 80+ million to occupy the first rank. While in April 2021, it was ranked first with 59+ million downloads.

Google Earns Maximum Revenue from Ads Globally

Among other global companies, Google stands strong in the first position with total ad revenue of $131.9 billion in 2020, as per the Group M report. In the last five years, Google always became the global firm that earns maximum revenue from advertisements. In 2019, it recorded total revenue of $122.3 billion.

As per Alphabet’s annual report, Google ads revenue has 80% of the total revenue of Alphabet, the parent firm of Google. The eMarketer report also reveals that Google ads will be having a 29% share of digital ads spending in 2021.

Search is Google’s most revenue generator unit. In 2020, 71% of ad revenue came from the “search and other” ads that are 57% of Alphabet’s total revenue.

The “search and other” figure includes ad revenue includes Google’s search properties, Gmail, Maps, and the Google Play app store.

Facebook ($86.7 billion) and Alibaba($28.6 billion) rank second and third among the global firms that earn maximum revenue from advertisements in 2020. Amazon recorded total revenue of $20.3 billion to find fifth place among maximum ad revenue firms in 2020, as per Group M data.

Comcast, Tencent, Disney, Baidu, and Microsoft rank from sixth to tenth among the maximum ad revenue global firms respectively in 2020.
