Chingari has won the best app award in Social Category Aatma Nirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge which was launched in July. A homemade social media app which was an answer to TikTok and has grown more popular after the TikTok ban, Chingari has registered millions of users after a TikTok Ban.

Other winners in the category are writing app YourQuote & vernacular news app, Koo, by Vokal. Mitron & Hidoc Dr. gets a special mention in the category. The results were announced today by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.
While talking to Next Big Brand, Biswatma Nayak (CEO, Chingari) said, ” When we applied for this challenge, we had different UI & over the course of time we tweaked something and made the UI much better and I guess we made it number 1.”
On asked about celebrations, he said, ” We are having e-celebrations. The whole team is happy and we are celebrating at our homes. After some time, we will go back to working and making the app much better. Everyone is wishing that we didn’t have pandemic as the Corona has slowed our hiring and a lot of processes.”
On asked about what is apart from video sharing in the app, he said, “We are planning to give the best experience to our creators. We will be including social e-commerce for creators and we are adding more additional features”
Launched earlier this month, the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge received a total of 6,940 entries in eight categories by July 26, 2020. The aim was to support and build a strong ecosystem for Indian apps, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4. Received applications come from around the country from remote and small towns.
For the 6,940 entries received, 3,939 came from individuals and the remaining 3,001 came from companies. For those obtained from individuals, approximately 1,757 are ready for use and the remaining 2,182 are under production. By comparison, 1,742 apps were already deployed from the organizations’ submitted software, and the remaining 1,259 are under production.
The ecosystem of the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat app can unlock value for Indian tech start-ups and help them get a slice of the multi-trillion-dollar Mobile economy.
This Mobile Development Challenge included supporting existing apps, as well as designing new applications. The Track 1 Innovation Challenge, divided into two sections, included identifying the best Indian Apps that people currently use and have the potential to scale up and become world-class apps in their respective categories.
