- Our visionary businessman, Mukesh Ambani hinted in a conference that gaming in India will be the next big hype (bigger than movies and TVs).
It was at the Future Decoded Mumbai CEO Summit organized by Microsoft where Mukesh Ambani and Satya Nadella had a good long discussion about technology, economy, business and upcoming trends in the market.
There is a huge potential for gaming to grow in India which will be bigger than music, movies and television shows put together.
The chairman of Reliance Industries said that gaming doesn’t really exist in India and there is a huge opportunity with increasing broadband connectivity.
A Base Has Been Set Up for Gaming In India To Bloom-Up:
When 2 CEOs meet together through a platform, it becomes nearly impossible to not to listen to their conversation. Both the giants mention how data consumption in India has gone up tremendously and how Digital India has now become a movement.
Ambani spoke about how Reliance Jio has helped bring data and mobile network to almost every village and city in India at affordable prices.
Which is so relatable. Just imagine the cost of a 1GB data pack before Reliance Jio popped up and what is its cost now after Jio coming to India.
Reliance JIO not only made the internet available at dirt cheap prices but he also made it available to those cities and villages where previously it was nearly impossible to be able to surf the internet.
Around 348 million users are using Jio and users are expected to reach 850 million in 2 years. Reliance Jio with the Jio Fiber broadband service, both are looking forward to providing the kind of internet service no one actually thought about.
Reliance definitely has set up a good base for gaming in India. What else one needs to play games? A device (PC/Laptop/mobile phone or tablets), uninterrupted internet service and various games to choose from.
Microsoft xCloud game streaming service (which is under preview) allows users to play the Xbox console game on their Android phones and other devices without having to download the game. This requires fast and uninterrupted internet service commented by Microsoft.
A Short Brief of Gaming in India:
Though gaming in India is still something underrated with nearly 3 billion gaming app downloads every year, India is already the largest emerging market according to KPMG.
The online gaming segment is estimated to be $1.1 billion by 2021 according to the Google-KPMG report. As of now, gaming in India is all about some fantasy games like Sharechat’s Jeet11, Dream11, CricPlay, My11Circle, and others.
Paytm first games – the only big platform that is trying it’s hard to blossom gaming in India
Revenue from online gaming is expected to climb from ₹43.8 billion (March 2018) to ₹118.8 billion by fiscal 2023 (KPMG commented in March).
“We in India have the opportunity to become the premier digital society. The next generation will see a very different India than what you (Nadella) and I have grown up in. I can easily say that mobile networks in India now are better or at par with anywhere else in the world.” – Mukesh Ambani
Ending Note:
If it’s coming from Mukesh Ambani, we definitely need to keep an eye on it. If Reliance is saying that gaming in India will overtake music and movies, chances of doing it become even more.
Though Ambani was categorical that he has no plans of becoming a gamer anytime in the next decade, he did mention the possible hint of regret that gaming in India doesn’t exist much at this time.
