Finally, Sudhir Sitapati has decided to quit his 22 years old journey at Hindustan Unilever(HUL). Godrej Consumer Products Limited(GCPL) has appointed Sitapati as MD and CEO. In HUL, he worked on different designations and led teams across departments in India, Europe, South East Asia, and Africa. Currently, he is also working as co-chair of the CII National Committee of Food Processing. Earlier, he also worked as a co-chair in National FMCG Committee.
Who is Sudhir Sitapati, the New MD and CEO of GCPL?
On Tuesday, GCPL released a statement that Sudhir Sitapati has been appointed as managing director and chief executive officer. He will officially join the GCPL on October 18, 2021. Currently, Nisaba Godrej is handling the duties and responsibilities of chairman and MD designations. Nisaba will continue serving GCPL as executive chairman after Sitapati’s joining.
Sitapati has a legacy in the FMCG sector. He has helped HUL in establishing its monopoly in India. Not only that, but he also helped Hindustan Unilever in overseas operations including Europe, South East Asia, and Africa.
In 2016, HUL appointed him as the executive director of the HUL management committee. He was the youngest member to achieve that position in HUL. Sitapati not only established HUL as the leader in foods and refreshment products, but he also merged GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare with HUL with a whopping $5 billion deal. Experts consider it as one of the largest deals in the Indian FMCG sector.
Sitapati is IIM alumni. He did his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahemdabad. For his undergraduate in Mathematics with Economics Honours, he joined St Xavier’s College, Mumbai.

On Tuesday GCPL also announced a 59% year-on-year (y-o-y) surge in its net profit to Rs 366 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2021. In the same quarter, the firm also recorded a 27% year-on-year growth in its revenue to Rs 2730 crore.
