Every year Hurun rolls out its list of billionaires from around the world. Let’s have a look at some key highlights of its list.
India Is 3rd Country on The List:
Despite the economic slowdown in India, it seems like the country and billionaires are unaffected by it. After a plethora of depressing news of GDP slowdown, businesses being affected, India rose to 3rd with 137 billionaires (33 more than last year).
- Mukesh Ambani is the person in India.
- Pharmaceuticals, TMT and chemical markets have 22, 22 and 16 billionaires each.
- Mumbai is the billionaire capital with 50 followed by New Delhi with 30.
According to Hurun Global Rich List, 99 billionaires saw their wealth increase out of which 39 are new entrants and 10 are no more on the list (they were previously there though).
Rising Billionaires of India on Hurun Global Rich List:
Gautam Adani: After demerger of his renewable generation and city gas distribution businesses, Mr. Adani’s wealth rose to $17 billion.
NR Narayana Murthy: Infosys cofounder has a wealth of around $2,3 billion. His son-in-law Rishi Sunak was appointed to become UK Chancellor of the Exchequer – the most powerful person in the British government after the PM himself.
Sunil Mittal & family witnessed his wealth reach up to $3.5 billion. Though adversely disrupted by Reliance JIO, Sunil Mittal is still India’s one of the billionaires.
Radhakishan Damani: Owner of D’Mart, his wealth increased 80% to $10.6 billion in India’s 2nd richest person after Mukesh Ambani.
Uday Kotak: The man behind Kotak Bank is in the Top 100 list with $15 billion wealth.
Ritesh Agarwal: The man behind OYO Hotels and Homes in included in youngest-self made billionaires worth around $1.1 billion.
Billionaires of India on the list of Hurun Global Rich list doesn’t end here. But the above entities are some of the giants in the country.
Hurun Global Rich list comes with many bifurcations and almost every billionaire whose journey is worth knowing has been covered on the list in some or the other sub-categorization.
Who Are the Top 10 Billionaires on the Hurun Global Rich List?
1. Jeff Bezos:
Our 56-year old visionary of Amazon is on the top spot on the list. It’s for the 3rd consecutive time that Jeff Bezos tops the Hurun Global Rich List. Jeff’s wealth is somewhere around $140 billion. Though after getting through the world’s largest divorce settlement with former wife MacKenzie Bezos, Jeff lost around $7 billion.
Even after going through the world’s biggest divorce, Jeff has been a giant and so is Amazon!
2. Bernard Arnault:
French billionaire and CEO of LVMH is 2nd on the list of richest billionaires. Bernard continued his upwards journey in the ranking of Hurun Global Rich List, he rose up two spots to second place. With a worth of around $107 billion, he is the only non-American in the top 5 billionaires.
Arnault was the richest person in the world before Amazon took Jeff Bezos to reach on top of the list.
3. Bill Gates:
If the names of billionaires are to be mentioned, then Bill Gates has to mandatorily be there. Though Bill Gates slipped to 3rd place on the Hurun Global Rich list last month, Bill Gates is now slowly turning to be known as a philanthropist.
Last month Gates announced $100 million promise to fight coronavirus which has disrupted the global economy.
4. Warren Buffett:
The man who has his own way of investing and the ability to lead the world of equity and shares. Warren Buffet dropped one place below and is now peacefully lying on the 4th spot.
With a Wealth of Warren Buffet is said to be somewhere around $102 billion. Buffet currently owns 15.7% of Berkshire despite having given away $3.6 billion worth of his shares to charity organizations.
5. Marc Zuckerberg:
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp (and what not in the future). Marc Zuckerberg is the player on the internet. With his wealth up by $4 billion, he’s now comfortably on the 5th spot on the Hurun Global Rich List of this year.
At the age of 35, Marc Zuckerberg is the youngest of all the billionaires on the list.
6. Amancio Ortega:
Spain oriented and retired chairman of a renowned textile company. The fashion house is famous for the Zara brand through his holding company Inditex, which launched some 106 new markets through its global platform.
7. Carlos Slim Helu:
Helu is down one place to 7th with a wealth of around $72 billion. He’s a significant shareholder of the New York Times and financial conglomerate Citigroup. Helu’s fortune largely stems from telecommunications company America Movil and Grupo Carso.
8. Sergey Brin:
Though the duo is no more taking care of Google Inc, both of them made it to the top 10 Hurun Global Rich list this year.
With a worth of around $68 billion and $67 billion. Brin and Page stepped down 21 years after leading Google and Alphabet and now Sundar Pichai is taking care of the giant search engine.
9. Mukesh Ambani & Larry Page & Steve Ballmer:
MD & CEO of Reliance Industries is now on the Hurun Global Rich List this year. It’s the second time Mukesh Ambani is featured on the list after generating wealth around $67 billion.
He’s the only Asian in the Top 10 list. Ambani’s wealth increased mainly due to humongous performance in telecommunications and retails. RIL is the first company to hit the milestone of achieving $140 billion market capitalization.
Ballmer’s 4% share of Microsoft was worth $56 billion with a plethora of assets including Los Angeles Clippers – a basketball team.
