New social media sensation Clubhouse is growing rapidly. In its prelaunch phase, the app Social audio app Clubhouse has broken different popularity records. As per the latest Sensor Tower data, the invite-only app has crossed 10 million downloads globally.
Clubhouse Popularity is Rising Exponentially
Clubhouse popularity does not require any introduction. It has created a buzz among social media users. The unique idea of audio-based rooms in Clubhouse has been welcomed by the users.
As per the latest estimates, the app surged from 3.5 million downloads on Feb 1, 2021, to 10 million downloads on Feb 19, 2021. The Clubhouse has become a popular app among celebrities. Business tycoons like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg’s presence on Clubhouse have helped in the app’s popularity further.
Out of these 10 million downloads, the US has contributed a maximum with approximately 33% share. It also shows that the app is welcomed in all countries.
Clubhouse did not share any download detail officially. Paul Davison, CEO of Clubhouse, said that in January, the app saw 2 million weekly active users. This information indicates that the total registered users have grown to a large number.
It should also be noted that app installs don’t depict the right usage of the platform. Some users simply download the app, but they never signup.
Since Clubhouse is an invite-only app. The app is not open to the public. So, simple download users will rarely exist. In a time, when Clubhouse invites are on sale, a user will not waste the invite.
Future of Clubhouse and its Competitors
Local apps like Dizhua, Tiya, and Yalla are competing with Clubhouse with the same features. These apps have also created a fan base in countries like China, the US, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. China has already banned Clubhouse.

Dizhua has a total of around 180k downloads whereas, Tiya has 6+ million installs. Yalla, founded in 2016, has a huge fan base of approximately 35 million users. We should also not forget that these apps may be launched earlier but they got popular after the Clubhouse launch.
The social audio ecosystem saw a sudden demand after the Clubhouse launch. Twitter is already working on an audio-based platform with Spaces. It may release it on the Android platform in March 2021. Recently, there was news that Facebook is secretly working on audio based platfoem. When contacted, Facebook did not reveal any detail.
People are also questioning the sustainability of Clubhouse in the future. Experts believe that Clubhouse is popular among those who talk a lot. Some of the Clubhouse conversations are boring. How will the app survive once covid is over and the world is open for traditional networking? Tech experts also call it a bubble that will burst once it becomes public.
The popularity of podcasts has indicated that the future of social media will be ruled by audio. People are switching to audiobooks from the traditional text. Right now, we are not in a position to predict the future of Clubhouse. Once the pandemic finishes and the app becomes public then only we can decide about the future aspect of this app.
