WhiteHat Jr’s founder and CEO have resigned and Trupti Mukker will join the WhiteHat Jr team as a CEO. Currently, Trupti works as head of customer experience and delivery. In other news, Byju’s has continued its acquisition spree. The most valued Indian startup is not leaving any stone unturned to continue as the leader of the edtech industry. In a recent acquisition, a Bengaluru-based edtech firm has bought computer vision and augmented reality(AR) startup Whodat Tech.
Karan Bajaj Quits
In 2020, Byju’s surprised everyone when the edtech firm acquired WhiteHat Jr with a whopping $350 million deal. Karan Bajaj, the founder of WhiteHat Jr, continued as the CEO of the coding platform after the acquisition deal. Now Karan has resigned from his position exactly after one year. Trupti Mukker will be the new CEO of WhiteHat Jr.
Byju Raveendran, CEO of Byju’s, has announced the current development via internal mail to employees. In his email, Raveendran said, “Under Karan’s leadership, WhiteHat Jr and BYJU’S FutureSchool now enable hundreds of thousands of students in countries around the world daily to learn and create with 11,000+ deeply committed teachers. While I wish he would’ve stayed longer, Karan is a force of nature and accustomed to making unconventional choices, as you all know, and I wish him only the best for what will surely be an exciting path ahead.”
Bajaj also confirmed the news via an email to his colleagues and employees. He also praised the new CEO Trupti. He wrote, “Trupti is a leader I’ve admired for almost two decades since our time at IIM together as she’s accomplished milestone after milestone and I know her incredible competent, compassionate leadership will keep making our learning experience better while also enabling thousands of more women to enter into the mainstream economy.”
Talking about his plans, Karan said that he wants to join public services to help the people of India.
Byju’s Acquires Whodat
Byju’s has bought the AR startup Whodat. Both the parties did not reveal the financial details yet. Whodat is an augmented reality(AR) based startup, founded in 2013 by Sriram Ganesh and Kaushik Das. The tech firm detects users’ environment to place 3D contents without using the physical markers and other objects.
Whodat will help Byju’s in advanced product development. It will also provide a better environment for students’ learning. With the help of Whodat’s software platform, Byju’s can guide the students and parents about the pros and cons of student rooms from a teaching-learning point of view. Edtech firm Byju’s has also found a place in TIME magazine’s list of most influential companies.
Ganesh, the co-founder of Whodat and an alumnus at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, talked about the recent collaboration with the most valued Indian startup Byju’s. He said, “We are incredibly excited to partner with Byju’s on a mission to make students across the world fall in love with learning. Whodat has had an incredible journey so far and this will leapfrog our impact to the next level.”
While Anita Kishore, chief strategy officer at Byju’s, believes that Whodat will help Byju’s in developing advanced and students friendly products. She said, “We are excited to have Sriram, Kaushik and the entire Whodat team join Byju’s. This will help us accelerate our product roadmap to provide immersive educational products across our product lines.”
