In October, Kia Motors India sold 12,850 units of its SUV Seltos, buckling the automotive downturn, and joining the top five carmakers ‘ list.

“Till now, Kia Motors India has received more than 60,000 bookings for the Seltos and, to ensure timely and seamless delivery, Kia has begun the second shift to increase production at its Anantapur production facility. The company also expressed that it will not close the reservations as the plant of the brand is completely capable of meeting the Seltos ‘ rising demand, “the company said in a press release.

Kia, SAIC Motor-owned MG Motor and PSA’s Citroen are the three automakers set to enter this and next year’s domestic market. Of the three, Kia has outlined India’s most aggressive strategy so far as it will begin its journey with an annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles and 265 touchpoints across 160 cities— a mix of dealerships and service centers. Hyundai Motor Group’s subsidiary has invested approximately $1 billion in India.

“Kia’s philosophy is more about long-term sustainability in India. We’ve learned a lot from other brands of competitors. So in the first stage, we want to be the most loved, “said Kookhyun Shim, CEO.

Founded in 1944, Kia, with over $47 billion in revenues, is Korea’s oldest automobile manufacturer and produces about 3 million vehicles a year across its 14 manufacturing and assembly operations in five countries.
