  • Kia launched the Seltos compact SUV last month as its debut product in India.
  • Kia sold 6,236 units of the Seltos in August.
  • It is higher than 6,001 Creta SUVs Hyundai sold in the same time period.

Kia launched the Seltos compact SUV last month as its debut product in India. Despite being such a new vehicle in the market, the Seltos has beaten every other vehicle in the compact SUV game to take the mantle of the segment sales leader. Kia sold 6,236 units of the Seltos in August, which is higher than 6,001 Creta SUVs Hyundai sold in the same time period. In August sales, other competitors such as the Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and Nissan Kicks were left behind. Till date, the Hyundai Creta was the reigning king of the compact SUV segment in India but the arrival of the Seltos has changed things for sure.

MG Hector & Kia Seltos Offer A Sign Of Relief In Dying Auto Industry

Furthermore, this is the first time a mid-SUV has appeared in its very first month in India as a segment leader. Kia Motors has joined the top-10 best-selling brand list on the Indian automotive market with its impressive sales numbers.

Kia Seltos, priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 15.99 lakh, has an enormous margin undermining her main competitors. The cost of MG Hector begins at Rs 12.18 lakh for the base petrol model and goes up to Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom), while the prices of Hyundai Creta begin at Rs 9.60 lakh for petrol and go up to Rs 14.18 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Seltos is based on the SP concept presented at the 2018 Auto Expo and will give rise to the Hyundai Creta second-generation bound for the beginning of next year. It’s going to be interesting to see how both designs stack up when going in the complete swing against each other. Three engine options power the Seltos: 1.4-liter turbo petrol,1.5-liter petrol and 1.5-liter diesel. The 1.4-liter turbo GDI engine is only available in the GT Line trim developing 140 PS and 242 Nm with an expansive range, while the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine kicks out 115 PS and 144 Nm. The turbocharged diesel of 1.5 liters produces 115 hp and 250 Nm. All motors are standard equipped with a six-speed MT.

Kia Seltos is available in two different trims — Tech Line and GT Line. The Tech Line gets five variants — HTE, HTK, HTK Plus, HTX and HTX Plus. Meanwhile, the GT Line comes in with three trims — GTK, GTX and GTX Plus.
