Likee App Has 115 Million+ Monthly Active Users – India’s Got Some Serious Potential!

  • Likee app’s parent company is BIGO Technology, and it has emerged as one of the most popular apps in India.

There was a time when we had only YouTube or Snapchat to be able to view all the funny videos from around the world. But it didn’t take much time for BYTE and BIGO technologies to come up with TikTok and Likee app respectively.

Today is the day when there is a whole new market of short-video formats. Some 5 years ago nobody thought about this term and more precisely nobody thought that a user can get hooked with these 60 seconds vides (provided, creative should be god level)

Which is the reason why the Likee app and a plethora of other app falling in the short-video category find India as it’s cash cows? Likee app is said to become the 6th most popular app globally with more than 330 million + downloads (India contributes to more than half of it).

“According to the report released by the company for October-December quarter 2019, the MAUs (Monthly active users) of the Likee app reached 115.3 million from 37.4 million a year ago. 28% increase on a yearly basis. We continue to expand Likee’s geographic coverage, refine its content and work on monetization capabilities.” – Bigo Technology Pte. Vice President – Mike Ong told.

Apart from India, the Likee app is being opened and operated from 180 more countries. But the team has its bets on India because of our Gen-Z millennial population.

“Likee app is growing rapidly and has seen a strong momentum worldwide. Likee is evolving to be the most favored short-video platform among its audience. India provides a huge scope for growth and will stand to be a promising market for us in the future as well.” – Ong commented.

What is Likee App All About?

I’m sure you already know when we throw words like short-video and app. It’s a short-video app dedicated to a population that are camera-friendly and have some generous content to share through 60 seconds of storytelling.

The Likee app opens up to video streaming directly. But initially, it used to throw you on its log-in and sign-up page. This made first-time users check out the app, and content in it before actually being a regular member. Not even Facebook or Orkut did this during their times!

The app is loaded with options like signing up through a phone number, email ID and allows you to connect your social media accounts.

Talking about its content, that is something crazy. Videos are available in different forms of quality and also in high resolution (in case you are very much inclined towards the quality of the videos). Content rolling on Likee app is not just about music or funny videos, influencers are also taking full advantage of this platform. A series of food bloggers, life hacks, beauty tips, fitness and much more is there on the Likee app.

Not only users get to record and upload their videos. They can make their videos stand out from all others by their editing. The Likee app is backed up with amazing editing tools that will make your video really interesting and cut the bounce rate of viewers like anything.

Launched in 2017 back in Singapore, the app now has its roots in more than 180 countries. The technology giant also partnered with 10 Bollywood production houses to push their limits in India.

With 115million+ MAUs, the Likee app has grown and only grown, but looking at the potential in the short-video market the app has a long way too. With the TikTok app ruling the niche, only time will tell how big the Likee app is and how much it is loved by its users from around the world.
