Maruti Suzuki recently launched the all new WagonR, which has gone on sale in India at a starting price of Rs 4.19 lakh going up to Rs 5.69 lakh.
The third generation WagonR comes primarily in three fuel-efficient variants – LXI, VXI, and ZXI, offered in seven iterations based on the engine and transmission option. It also comes with 1.0-litre and 1.2-liter petrol engines on offer, motors and the company’s automated manual transmission system Auto Gear Shift (AGS) is also offered as an option with engine options. In India, the new WagonR will be in competing league with the likes of the new-gen Hyundai Santro and the Tata Tiago.
This is the third-generation model of the WagonR and is completely new from the ground up. It is bigger and better than the outgoing model and even in terms of design, it looks different. The front ends have gotten a new grille along with re-designed headlamps. The bumper up-front is a new unit with trapezoidal housing for the fog lamps.
The new 2019 WagonR is now longer by 60 mm and wider by 145 mm but it’s also shorter now by 25 mm. However, the car does have a 35 mm longer wheelbase. This means more cabin space. The cabin of the new Wagon R also got a major overhaul with a new dashboard and touchscreen infotainment system with a smooth two-tone finish. It is a significant step-up over the outgoing model. The system is called SmartPlay Studio by Maruti, and it offers smartphone connectivity, vehicle information, and cloud-based services along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The car also got new dual tone brown and beige fabric upholstery. Some safety features are standard across all variants. They include Driver airbag, Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors.
The new platform also increases the safety of occupants through effective absorption of impact and dispersion of crash energy and assures stability. Use of 40% higher tensile steel provides better strength, safety, rigidity, and NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) performance.
Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki, Kenichi Ayukawa was quoted saying recently – “We are delighted to present the latest generation of one of our most successful models – Over the years WagonR has become the choice of more than 2.2 million families. We are confident that the new WagonR with its all-new robust design, dynamically crafted and spacious interiors, SmartPlay Studio, strong HEARTECT Platform, and Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology will become the choice of many more Indian families.”
