Masai will now offer courses in Data and Business Analytics and Web Development and UI/UX Design as part of its goal to become India’s one-stop destination for outcome-based education. Masai School, an edtech and skilling firm based in Delhi, has obtained Prepleaf, an end-to-end placement preparation company specialising in data analytics, for $1 million (about Rs 7.5 crore).
Masai School founder and CEO Prateek Shukla said the Bengaluru-based firm will now offer courses in data and business analytics and web programming and UI/UX design as part of its goal to become a one-stop destination for outcome-based education in India.
Ankit Agrawal, Amit Saharan, and Aman Singhal, IIT Kanpur alumni, created Prepleaf in 2017 to provide 5-month-long data analytics training.
Masai School has added user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design classes to its full-stack web programming school, following the acquisition of the Bengaluru-based institute Design Shift Academy.
It follows the company’s announcement in October of an unknown amount of money from Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma and Cred founder Kunal Shah, as well as a Series A round led by Omidyar Network India earlier this year.
“We have over 700 hiring partners recruiting skilled developers from us,” Shukla said. “This acquisition helps us increase the offering for our hiring partners.”
Prepleaf has about 250 students registered in the data analytics test preparation courses.
It, like Masai, offers courses through an income-share agreement, in which students pay nothing up in advance and only pay if they make more than Rs 5 lakh per annum after completing the course. Prepleaf has a 90% placement record and an average pay package of Rs 7.5 lakh.
“Prepleaf was founded with the single-minded focus of creating a paradigm shift in access to quality tech education and jobs in data and business analytics,” its co-founder Ankit Agrawal said. “We are certainly thrilled to be part of the Masai family and make this ambition a reality by transforming the way skill-based education is delivered today and creating a world-class talent pool from India.”
Masai School’s Shukla stated the company constantly evolves its curriculum to offer recruiters the most relevant skilled resources. “Over 50 startup CTOs (chief technology officers) help us develop the curriculum so people can start working immediately with relevant skillsets.”
He told the business is on track to report annualised recurring revenue of $18 million by the next financial year. “We hope to have over 30,000 students graduating next year,” he shared.
Around 65 percent of full-time students come from non-computer science backgrounds, with at least 20 percent enrolling after completing their 12th grade and without having completed their college degrees.
