  • A list finalized by Delhi Police tells that the online retailers and eCommerce stores can now deliver essentials in Delhi.
  • Bigbasket, Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Big Bazaar some of the stores on the list.

It’s a sigh of relief for people of Delhi to know that Delhi Police now has a list of online retailers and eCommerce stores which will be delivering essential goods to its customers.

After the undisclosed lockdown period and curfew in some cities, people are unable to go out of their houses and buy their daily essentials. Delhi Police has allowed retailers/operators and eCommerce stores to operate in the city asking them to ensure hassle-free movement of personnel and vehicles of online retailers and eCommerce stores delivering essential services and goods.

The news comes after Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said that all shops selling essential commodities in Delhi will be allowed to remain open round the clock to prevent the gathering of people.

“Online retailers and eCommerce stores delivering essential services and good to be allowed. All essential services shops can remain open 24 hours so that there is no rush of people.” – Anil Baijal

Police in Delhi and Gurugram have assured residents that online retailers and eCommerce stores like Zomato, Big Basket, Amazon, Flipkart and Big Bazaar will continue to function during 21-day covid-19 nationwide lockdown since Wednesday.

Gurugram police issue a similar message with a tweet tagging eCommerce stores like including Zomato, Flipkart and others as well as courier giant Bluedart.

Over the past 3 days after Janta curfew, there have been reports that local authorities have been turning away delivery agents. Some agents have reportedly been arrested and physically beaten by the police.

“Our delivery partners are facing several hurdles across cities while trying to deliver food which has been classified as an essential service. We are communicating with the relevant authorities and hoping these issues are sorted soon.” – Zomato spokesperson said.

Punjab Also Ties Up with Online Retailers and eCommerce Stores –

Soon after permitting various eCommerce stores to deliver essentials to people, Punjab police also got associated with Zomato and Swiggy in order to maintain peace on the streets.

Punjab became the first state to impose a curfew, a day before the national lockdown was witnessed. Chief Minister – Amarinder Singh announced that all essential items would be delivered to residents at their doorstep.

Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta said in a media statement on Wednesday that in order to streamline the system, police approached eCommerce stores because they already had the requisite infrastructure in place.

In Ludhiana and Amritsar, 650 delivery agents of Swiggy were engaged in-home delivery of groceries and pharmaceuticals while Patiala was associated with Zomato and Swiggy both.

Summing Up –

It should be a sigh of relief for people to know that they don’t need to move to wander out of their homes in search of essentials like groceries and other essentials. Just like old times, online retailers and eCommerce stores have taken the responsibility to deliver things right outside the doorstep.

While you deliver essentials from these online retailers, don’t forget to help the deliver people sanitize themselves.
