Patanjali IPL Bidding- Next Big Brand

  • According to a story in Economic Times, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali is considering putting in a bid for the IPL 2020 title sponsorship.

According to a story in Economic Times, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali is considering putting in a bid for the IPL 2020 title sponsorship. BCCI and former partners Vivo had unexpectedly terminated the deal because of the board’s opposition to the Chinese brand aboard.

“We are considering this year’s IPL title sponsorship, as we want to give the Patanjali brand a global marketing platform,” Patanjali spokesperson SK Tijarawala confirmed to ET, adding that Patanjali is considering proposing to the Indian Cricket Control Board (BCCI).

Business analysts believe the brand lacks a global company’s star strength. “Patanjali will do more for Patanjali than for IPL as a sponsor of the game. While the caste hierarchy among brands could play out, it would be contextual for Patanjali to own the title sponsorship from a nationalistic viewpoint, as there is a huge anti-China sentiment prevailing in the country, “said the brand strategist Harish Bijoor.

Several firms, such as Jio, Amazon, Tata group, Dream11, and Byju’s have joined the fray ever since Vivo left.

Earlier BCCI chairman Sourav Ganguly claimed that the departure of Vivo as title sponsor for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League ( IPL) should not be seen as a financial crisis.

Last week, the BCCI had agreed to formally declare that the relationship with title sponsors Vivo will be discontinued.

“I wouldn’t call it a financial crisis,” Ganguly said while speaking at a Learnflix webinar, as per ESPNCricinfo. “It’s just a bit of a blip. And the only way you can fix that is to be professionally good for a certain period of time.

“Big stuff doesn’t come overnight, and big things don’t go overnight. The long-term planning gets (you) ready for defeats, gets you ready for success.

“You are leaving your choices open. It is like Plan A and Plan B. That’s what anxious people do. Sensitive brands are doing exactly that. That is what responsive companies do. BCCI, it’s a very strong base-the game, players, administrators in the past have made this game so powerful that all these blips can be controlled by BCCI, “he added.
