This is not the first time that Tendulkar has been linked to an Indian startup. The Bharat Ratna winner had previously invested in Smartron India, a Bengaluru-based Internet of Things (IoT) company, and had also come on board as the company’s brand ambassador.
CEO Sharma said, “Cricket has been a crucial element in Paytm’s brand journey and our young brand has performed wonderfully. We have also been the title sponsor for India cricket for the last few years, in addition to IPL. We’ve had a fantastic relationship with the BCCI and our IPL investment further reaffirms our dedication to this wonderful sport.
The brand ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ is worth around $25 million, or Rs 190 crore, according to a recent brand valuation by Duff and Phelps.
