PVR Cinemas has launched a 12-screen Superplex at the Vegas Mall in Delhi’s Dwarka city. It is the largest property of the chain in the capital region with 1,850 seats, while the screen count remains second to the Noida Logix theater.

An estimated Rs. 70 crore was spent on the property by PVR.

The Superplex features one IMAX screen, one 4 DX screen, two luxury LUXE auditoriums, seven traditional auditoriums, and one kids-playhouse auditorium.

“Dwarka houses one of Asia’s largest townships and boasts several couples with double income but hasn’t had a multiplex until now with people traveling to West Delhi or Gurgaon to watch movies,” said Gautam Dutta.

As far as investment in large-format cinema is concerned in particular with combating the risk from over-the-top video streaming sites, Dutta said the chain of the exhibition had developed to meet new challenges.

“It would be cliché to suggest that streaming platforms do not pose a threat, but our research has shown that anyone who watches content on their screens appears to consume more content in theaters as well. That provided a high ground for the development of cinemas. We’ve gone from just providing space for the film screening to wider out-of-home entertainment with food, drink, and overall design, “Dutta said.

With this opening, PVR Cinemas stands at a count of 62 screens in 16 New Delhi properties and 244 screens in northern India across 56 properties.

“Introducing another innovative and luxurious cinema model for our patrons in Delhi is extremely gratifying. Out – of-home entertainment has been an important part of the Indian entertainment business, and we must continue to provide our customers with enhanced experiences, “said Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, joint managing director of PVR Ltd. in a statement.

Recently, PVR partnered with Shangri La Group to launch the new nine-screen property which includes two premium cinema formats–PVR LUXE and one PVR Playhouse for children.

The estate has an area of 38,454 sq. on two floors. Ft. and housing for 1,176 people. Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint MD, PVR, added that Sri Lanka’s market dynamics are very close to India’s, which helped the company make strategic decisions.

Over the past few years, the Indian film industry has grown exponentially and has a global fan base to which we aspire through creativity and expansion.

With the release, in 69 Indian cities and Colombo, PVR now has a total of 809 screens at 171 assets.
