RedBus Passengers- Next Big Brand

  • RedBus on Monday announced that the total number of Indian passengers plying through its network in 2019 was 71.63 million.

RedBus on Monday announced that the total number of Indian passengers plying through its network in 2019 was 71.63 million, higher than the combined population of the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Norway, and Sweden.

“With a whopping 9 million traveler ratings and a daily bid of over 1.9 million seats, redBus ‘ annual report offers us an insight into the industry as well as a clear picture of Desi’s choices and preferences for bus travel,” the company said in a statement.

For RedBus, in 2019 alone, more than 1,500 out of the 5892 cities and towns served this year are new towns and cities added to the network. A total distance of 32.36 billion kilometers had been traveled by redBus travelers last year.

Bengaluru overtook the list for favorite destinations in 2019, followed by Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune.

In fact, three out of four RedBus customers booked their tickets just two days before the flight, and one out of five book tickets just four hours before the trip.

RedBus is an online Indian bus ticketing network that offers a ticket booking facility through its website, mobile apps for iOS and Android. Headquartered in Bengaluru, India, it connects bus travelers across India, countries in South East Asia and Latin America with a network of over 2500 bus operators. RedBus is a division of Group Ibibo. The website is also a member of MakeMyTrip Limited, India’s leading online travel company. RedBus currently operates in six countries–India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Peru and Colombia and has registered more than 180 million trips so far, with a customer base of more than 20 million.

The company achieved an INR 5000 crore GMV in 2018, with a 70 percent share in the online Indian bus ticketing segment.

RedBus was founded in 2006 by the engineers from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Phanindra Sama, Sudhakar Pasupunuri and Charan Padmaraju, who also worked together with various organizations before founding the company. The founders started operations in 2006 with an initial investment of Rupees 5 lakh, by joining up with various travel agents for seat reservations through the redBus portal. The company was selected for the TiE Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program in the same year and was mentored on several business aspects.

The company owns BOGDS, a cloud computing software for bus operators, and SeatSeller, a GDS for the sale of bus inventories.
