Before the pandemic, Reliance India Limited(RIL) started medical-grade oxygen production in India. Now, the firm ranks first among the medical oxygen producers in India. The company has dedicated its Jamnagar infrastructure to produce medical liquid oxygen. Currently, one out of 10 patients is taking the help of RIL’s oxygen. The company is currently producing 11% of total medical oxygen production in India.
Reliance is Producing 11% of total Medical Oxygen in India
On Saturday, Reliance released a statement that it is now the largest medical oxygen producer in India with an approximately 11% share. The business giant is producing medical oxygen from a single location in Jamnagar.
Currently, India is on the back foot due to the spike in covid cases. Patients are facing an acute shortage of oxygen. Hundreds of patients have died due to oxygen unavailability in the hospitals. In such a dire situation, Reliance has become a savior with such a level of oxygen production.
It should also be noted that RIL never produced medical oxygen before. Due to the pandemic, it started producing it to help India. Starting from nil, Reliance is now the leader of medical grade oxygen production in India.
“At its refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Jamnagar and other facilities, RIL now produces over 1000 MT of medical-grade liquid oxygen per day – or over 11% of India’s total production – meeting the needs of nearly every one in ten patients.”
How Did RIL Produce such a Large Level Medical Grade Oxygen?
From April onwards, Mukesh Ambani is supervising the Jamnagar unit of Reliance to produce the mass level of Oxygen. The firm has solved the oxygen issue by two methods. First, the company has refocused most of the industrial processes at the Jamnagar unit for oxygen production. Second, augmenting loading and transportation capacities to ensure that it reaches every corner of India.
Reliance is providing oxygen free of cost across the country to help over 1 lakh patients daily.
Since March 2020, Reliance has helped India with over 55000 MT of medical oxygen supplied in all states. In April 2021, RIL supplied 15000 MT of medical-grade oxygen-free to reach 15 lakh patients.
Talking about RIL’s initiative of mass oxygen production, Mukesh Ambani said:
“For me and all of us at Reliance, nothing is more important than saving every life as India battles against a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
He further added:
“There is an immediate need to maximize India’s production and transportation capacities for medical grade oxygen. I am proud of our engineers at Jamnagar who have worked tirelessly, with a great sense of patriotic urgency, to meet dis new challenge.”
He also said:
“I am truly humbled by the determination and sense of purpose shown by the bright, young members of the Reliance family who have once again risen to the occasion and delivered when India needs it the most.”
Nita Ambani, Founder of Reliance Foundation, said:
“Our country is going through an unprecedented crisis. We at Reliance Foundation will continue to do everything we can to help. Every life is precious.”
“Our plants at our Jamnagar refinery have been repurposed overnight to produce medical-grade liquid oxygen that is being distributed across India. Our thoughts and prayers are with our fellow countrymen and women. Together, we will overcome these difficult times.”
