Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) of Billionaire Mukesh Ambani revealed today a donation of some 500 crores to the PM-CARES Fund to counter coronavirus.
RIL donated approximately 5 crores each to the governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat to help tackle the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, said today: “We are sure that sooner rather than later, India will overcome the coronavirus crisis. Through this hour of crisis, the entire Reliance Industries Limited team is with the nation and will do all in its power to win this war against COVID-19.
The company had also said it is increasing production capacity to manufacture 100,000 face-masks daily and a large number of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as suits and shoes, for health workers in the country to help them battle the pandemic challenges.
RIL had said in a statement that it has implemented a multi-pronged approach for prevention, mitigation, and ongoing support.
“RIL is also continuing its 24×7, multi-pronged, on-the-ground campaign to ensure that the nation remains prepared, fed, supplied, safe, linked and empowered to combat and conquer the unparalleled challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
In this action plan against COVID-19 RIL has already deployed the strengths of the Reliance Team. RIL and its empowered team have stepped up in the cities and villages, on roads and streets, clinics and hospitals, grocery stores and retail outlets, and have moved additional capabilities into serving the nation, “the company said in a press release.”
This strategy can be broadened further to scale as the nation needs. In this action plan against COVID-19, RIL has deployed the combined strengths of the Reliance Foundation, Reliance Retail, Jio, Reliance Life Sciences, Reliance Industries and all the 6,00,000 members of the Reliance Family, “the oil-to-telecom conglomerate said.
Within two weeks, RIL has also founded India’s first 100-bed exclusive COVID-19 hospital. RIL also said it will provide fifty lakh-free meals across the nation over the next ten days, and is quickly expanding to provide more meals and in newer areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday the establishment of the Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES) for the Prime Minister where citizens can contribute and assist the government in fighting the COVID-19.
