Entertainment has been an integral part of everyone’s life. The current pandemic has changed the entertainment industry a lot. Worldwide Lockdown closed the doors of multiplexes and cinema halls. Outdoor games, theatre play, and other means of entertainment were also badly affected by covid.

to establish themselves in the biggest digital infrastructure, OTT platforms like Amazon Primes are giving priority to Indian users. OTT(Over The Top) platforms were the only method to get entertained inside a home. We all are aware of the big OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hot Star, Sony Liv, Zee5, and Alt Balaji. Worldwide movie industries directly released the movies/shows on these OTT platforms.

What if I ask you about the regional OTT platforms in India? Answering this question would have been difficult before 2020. But Now, regional OTT platforms growth is phenomenal.

Digital presence has reached tier-2 and tier 3 cities. Language-specific and local cultures relayed OTT platforms have surged in the last few months. Let’s look at the top 5 regional OTT platforms:-

1. Aha

Aha is an OTT platform dedicated to the Telugu language. Arha Media and Broadcasting Pvt Ltd founded it. Aha is a Hyderabad-based OTT platform. Movies and original shows are exclusively released on this platform.

Aha believes in an Ads-free content policy to make the user experience better. You can enjoy Aha content through mobile, tablet, web, smart tv.

Aha provides free movies to the guest account. But most of the premium Aha movies are available through paid plans only. It provides 3 months and yearly plan. On average, you can get an Aha plan with an expenditure of Rs 60-70 per month.

2. Dollywood Play

The Hindi language is a widely spoken language in India. The recent growth of 95% in Hindi content consumption is phenomenal. Hindi dubbed movie is a recent trend on TV. To utilize this, Dollywood Play was founded.

Dollywood Play mainly provides south Indian movies in the Hindi language. It was founded by Wamindia and Digital Convergence companies. Both companies have a history to deal with online content.

Dollywood Play is available for Android and iOS platforms. Movies, comedy clips, and music videos are the main attractions of Dollywood Play. It’s tagline AB SAB DUB tells the whole story of the OTT platform.

3. Hoichoi

It’s one of the oldest OTT platforms for Bengali language users. It was founded in 2017. They have the largest curated list of Bengali contents. Around 25 crores of Bengali language-lovers watch Hoichoi worldwide.

HoiChoi is one of the oldest OTT regional platforms in India

They have subscription plans for single screen and double screens.  Rs 499 yearly for 1 screen and Rs 699 yearly for 2 screens plan are the most popular ones.

4. Talkies

Talkies Is a popular OTT platform for Karnataka regional languages like Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, and Beary. It was launched in the last quarter of 2020. It provides movies, tv shows, and web series in the local languages.

Users can buy a quarterly plan for Rs 199. Movies on rent is also an option over Talkies.

5. CityShor.TV

CityShor.TV was launched in October 2020. It is dedicated to the Gujarati region. Founders advertise is as the 1st OTT platform for Gujrati.

Gujarati media company Cityshor.com launched the region-specific platform. Movies and short films, CityShor Originals are the main contents of this OTT platform. Ads-free contents make the user experience better on CityShor.

CityShor has a plan to release 12 Gujarati language series to entertain the users. As per CityShor, one of their originals has reached 1.25 crores of users.
