Roshni Nadar Malhotra has been named chairman of HCL Technologies, the IT services business said on Friday. She replaces her boss, Shiv Nadar, who would continue as managing director and hold Chief Strategy Officer designation. Shiv Nadar will continue to be the company’s managing director with the company’s appointment as the company’s chief strategic officer, HCL Technologies said Friday in a statement.
Malhotra, 38, who was the company’s chief executive and non-executive director until recently, is one of the country’s richest women. The 2019 rankings of IIFL Wealth Hurun estimated her wealth at Rs 36,800 crore.
“We live in extraordinary times where organisations and people around geographies are faced with pandemic-related challenges. It, however, has also driven companies to embrace the pandemic as a catalyst for change and look at building agility and resilience at all levels of their organization, “said Shiv Nadar in a statement announcing the company’s financial results for the 2020-21 fiscal quarter of June.
Malhotra manages the organization’s philanthropic arm and is also the founder and trustee of The Habitats Trust, a charity that aims to protect habitats and their native organisms, Forbes said.
She has an MBA from Kellogg School of Management and an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, said last year in an executive profile the Wall Street Journal.
“HCL and its partners are helping clients embrace digital transformation and innovation to emerge stronger in this new normal. I am optimistic that we can emerge as stronger companies together with concerted steps to harness digital energy and sustainable business practices,” he said.
For the three months ending June 30, 2020, HCL Technologies reported a 7.3 percent drop in net profit at Rs. 2925 crore compared to the same period last year. The income rose 31.7 percent year-on-year. This came on the back of Rs. 17,841 crore sales, down 4 percent is sequentially and up 8.6 percent year-on-year.
