Samsung, the South Korean Smartphone Manufacturer, has again occupied first place among the World’s smartphone companies. The smartphone giant has become the biggest smartphone maker globally in Q1 of 2021. Apple, the US smartphone maker, could not stay long in the first position. As per Canalys research firm data, Xiaomi ranks third among all smartphone makers in the world. There is a marginal gap between the shipment of Apple and Xiaomi.
Samsung is the Smartphone Leader in Q1 of 2021
Canalys research report indicates that Samsung has shipped 76.5 million smartphone units in the first quarter(Q1) of 2021. With such a huge amount of shipments, the South Korean firm has grabbed a 22% share in the smartphone market globally.
On Thursday, Samsung revealed that the company saw a 66% surge in its quarterly profit in the mobile department.
Samsung got exponential growth in its quarterly profit due to the surge in Galaxy S21 smartphone demand. The smartphone giant recently reduced the cost of the Galaxy S21. That helped the firm a lot. And that is also the major reason why Samsung dethroned Apple from the first position.
Generally, Apple launches its smartphone in the last quarter of every year. That was the major reason behind the first position of Apple in 2020. Now, Apple won’t have any new product to sell in Q1, that is why its sale went down. On the other hand, Samsung always launches its flagship phones in Q1 of the new year. So, it makes Samsung’s sale higher.
Counterpoint analyst Varun Mishra said that Apple still occupies the major market share in the US, China, India, and Japan. iPhone Pro Max was the best selling smartphone in the US market.
Apple and Xiaomi Ranks 2nd and 3rd in Q1 of 2021 Respectively
Canalys research findings also revealed that Apple sold around 52.4 million units in Q1 of 2021 to become the 2nd largest smartphone maker in the world. Currently, Apple has a 15% smartphone market share.
Xiaomi is the biggest gainer in Q1 of 2021. The Chinese firm recorded the best performance ever in a quarter. Xiaomi shipment saw a surge of 62% to 49 million smartphones. Currently, it stands strong with a 14% market share.
Canalys also stated that smartphone sales observed an exponential growth in 2021. Overall, all smartphone firms sold 347 million units in Q1 of 2021 that is 27% more than the last quarter of 2020.
Talking about the future of smartphone manufacturing, Canalys analyst Ben Stanton said:
“Supply of critical components, such as chipsets, has quickly become a major concern, and will hinder smartphone shipments in the coming quarters.”
Apple, the most valuable brand in the world, also raised concerns related to chip shortage. On Wednesday, the company said that it will lose a revenue of $3-4 billion in Q2 of 2021. The chip shortage will mainly affect the supply of iPads and Macbooks. in 2020, Apple occupied the first position in 2020 after four years gap.
