According to the latest regulatory filings made to the Registrar of Companies (RoC), Samsung India has become the first smartphone and consumer electronics company to earn $10 billion in revenue in the country. The milestone comes at a time when Samsung heads into India’s 25th year of operations.
According to RoC data, the South Korean software giant, also the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, posted Rs 73,086 crore revenue in 2018-19 on the back of solid performance across its smartphones and consumer-sustainable divisions.
In FY19, Samsung India posted a 20 percent increase in revenue, doubling its 10 percent growth rate achieved in FY18.
Samsung India’s revenue in FY18 was at Rs 61,066 crore, according to RoC filing.
The smartphone division of Samsung India contributed a substantial amount to overall revenue, with sales of mobile phones amounting to Rs 43,087 or nearly 60 percent of overall revenue.
According to RoC reports, Samsung India’s TV and home appliances divisions have performed with double-digit sales growth.
In 1995, Samsung entered the Indian market and currently operates at its Noida facility, the world’s largest mobile manufacturing unit. In Tamil Nadu, it has another factory.

The South Korean giant has five R&D and one design centers in the country. Samsung is also one of the biggest employers in the country with over 70,000 employees.
Recently, According to the latest regulatory filings made by Xiaomi Technology India with the Registrar of Companies (RoC), the total revenue of the business in 2018-19 increased by 54 percent to Rs 35,426.92 crore compared to Rs 23,061.11 crore clocked in FY18.
By revenue, Xiaomi remains behind Samsung India, which clocked Rs 43,087.9 crore mobile phone sales in FY19 as per RoC data.
On a consolidated basis, after China’s BBK Electronics group that owns brands such as Oppo, Vivo, Realme and OnePlus, Xiaomi is India’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer by revenue. In FY19, sales of Rs 38,726 crore produced by the four brands together were reported by the BBK Electronics group.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is based in Suwon, South Korea, a South Korean multinational electronics company. It is the flagship company of the Samsung chaebol, accounting for 70% of the group’s revenue in 2012, due to some circular ownership. Samsung Electronics employs about 308,745 people and has assembly plants and distribution networks in 80 countries.
It is the largest consumer electronics and semiconductor manufacturer in the world by sales. As of June 2018, market capitalization stood at US$ 325.9 billion for Samsung Electronics.
