SHAREit New player joins the OTT game

Today’s competition pushes apps to grow and diversify in order to keep their place in markets. Most of them are diversifying and moving towards OTT. Few of the prime and successful stories are SHAREit and MX Player going towards OTT.

SHAREit:- From files to content

Lenovo didn’t make much impact on the Indian smartphone network but left behind an app in from of SHAREit, which would impact the smartphone generation.
SHAREit was launched preloaded with Lenovo Vibe Z smartphone in 2013. 2 Years later, SHAREit separated from Lenovo with Michael Qiu as the founder.

6 years down the line SHAREit is one of the most important parts of any smartphone today. It lets users share files over a secured WiFi connection in a touch and faster as compared to Bluetooth or NFC. It made file sharing really quick and easy for just about anyone and that’s the major reason for its success in India.

SHAREit is ready to take a leap of faith through the OTT market in India.

SHAREit has tied up with leading platforms such as Hotstar, Airtel Wynk to list their premium content for SHAREit users. Apart from telecom tie-ups of OTT platforms, India has the low purchasing power of premium content.

SHAREit uses AI and user data processing if permitted by the user. It checks the apps installed on the phone to come up with recommendations. It also curates content from Youtube, Dailymotion and other open platforms which are its content partners.

SHAREit is one of the biggest apps of the world even bigger than Instagram and some of the prominent apps putting it in the big league of leaders such as Facebook and Whatsapp.

MX Player:- From videos to premium content

Similarly, South Korean video playback app MX Player when launched in India in 2011 was an android app for offline video viewing. After Times Internet bought MX Player for $140 million, it was relaunched as OTT platform on 20th February 2019 providing premium content from all the premium OTT platforms. Later on, MX Player introduced their own original content in collaboration with different content creators such as TVF and others.

MX Player has a user base of 350 million in India and 600 million worldwide. Although, it continues to work as a video playback app outside India.

Recently in a survey, MX Player has reported having a most loyal user base in India beating other content giants such as Hotstar, Netflix and others.

Examples of SHAREit and MX Player shows that to stay alive and keep growing, you need to keep diversifying your features. These are just a few examples of apps evolving into a new sector according to the needs of the customer.
This certainly goes to prove that in today’s time content and customer is the king.
