Snapchat is setting up its first office in India to support business growth. The photo-messaging app on Monday said that its DAU(Daily Active Users) in India has jumped to 40 percent year-on-year in the June quarter.

Chief Strategy Officer of Snapchat, Jared Grusd said that the company’s local team in India will focus on building an active community of creators and users, expanding strategic partnerships with local advertisers.

“Snapchat has seen a 40 percent Daily Active Users increase in India from Quarter 2 2018 to Quarter 2 2019. We are setting up our first office in Mumbai to support the continued growth of business in the country, said Jared.

According to the company, more than 203 million people use Snapchat daily on average.

The parent company of Snapchat is Snap. The app allows users to share photos with their friends and contacts for 24 hours after which the content disappears.

Earlier in the year, Durgesh Kaushik was appointed as the Head of Market Development and part of the global team, hence making him the first India-based employee in the company.

The company has launched four Indian languages to Snapchat (the app) with an aim to add 5 more languages at the end of the year.

Grusd also said that Building a team locally will allow the company to create the best possible experience for local Snapchatters. They will continue to expand strategic partnerships with regional media companies to add more community content and work with local content creators.

In July, Snapchat hosted its first-ever ‘Creator Summit’ in Mumbai with aiming at the engagement with local creator community.

The company has already worked with a host of brands such as OnePlus, Pepsi and Cadbury in India. It launched SnapKit partnerships with JioSaavn and Gaana.com that helps Snapchat users to share and post music content on the photo app.

Unlike other social media outlets, Snap is focusing on providing a medium for communication between a close group of friends.

Snapchat was created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown, an alumnus of Standford University in September 2o11.

Snapchat has become notable for representing a new, mobile-first direction for social media, and places significant emphasis on users interacting with virtual stickers and augmented reality objects.
