T-Series started off as a music production company and soon ventured into the space of a film studio. After having successfully produced a few films, the brand is now ready to expand once more into an avenue that is continually growing – digital streaming. With this in mind, the brand has begun hunting for good scripts for web-series. They have already worked with leading streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar in order to facilitate the digital production of their films. T-Series’ new vertical will be headed by Vinod Bhanushali, the current President – Media Marketing, Publishing, and Acquisitions.
When asked about his upcoming role, Mr. Bhanushali said “Digital viewership is growing at a rapid speed and is a huge platform that needed to be tapped by us. Web shows and films have their own set of audience and are a huge market as everyone – all ages, races, languages, communities across the world are hooked on to it. There are some stories that are not meant for the 70mm screen yet they are needed to be told. They are commercial yet strong content films. With a new space that has evolved, web-shows and web-films have become a huge demand which is tested and proven to be successful. We have a lot of scripts coming to us every day and many of them are a perfect fit for this medium. We want to give a chance to these storytellers to bring forth their stories. T-Series will now become a platform to produce these stories and associate with our existing digital platforms to release our content.”
According to Mr. Bhushan Kumar, the son of the founder of T-Series, this is the right time to enter the digital space. The brand plans to launch both, shows and movies under their digital banner. He also said that “There exists a huge audience across the globe that you reach out to with this medium. Web-shows and web-films have an audience for all kinds of genres of storytelling and different languages as well. Along with producing films, we want to create content for digital space and give a platform for new directors and storytellers.”

T-series was founded by Gulshan Kumar in 1983. As per reports from 2014, T-series owns a 35% market share when it comes to music in India. This is followed by Sony Music and Zee. T-series has shown a penchant for expanding into the right territory at the right time. The brand owns over 29 channels on Youtube and collectively has over 140 million subscribers. Their main channel has over 89 million subscribers and ranks as the second highest subscribed to channel, after PewDiePie. With more than 61.5 Billion views, the channel is the most viewed one on Youtube.
So, this shift into the digital sphere comes across as a very natural and organic one for them. We hope that they work with great content creators to produce some amazing shows and movies.
