Now ranked as the 16th largest light vehicles company in India, TATA motors recently crossed the one million sales mark in 2018. They sold a total of 1.089 units in 2018, a number that’s more impressive than the 0.986 million units sold in 2017. JATO Dynamics also named them the fasted growing company among their list of top 20 automobile companies throughout the world.

JATO’s global analyst, Felipe Menoz, spoke about this development in detail. He said “It was the 16th largest carmaker last year, getting close to Subaru and outselling some Chinese brands, but is not enough to become a key player in the industry. JLR has done a very good job by enlarging its line-up, launching modern cars, new tech, and gaining a decent part of the premium market (5.5% market share). But the Tata brand needs to address more markets.”

He also went on to elaborate on this. “There are still dark spots in this story. Growth was driven by the Tata brand, which sold 99% of its cars in India. JLR (-2%) struggled as they compete in the profitable but highly competitive premium segment,” Munoz said.

Tata Motors Performance in India

Tata Motors has newly launched the Harrier in India, which is proudly displayed during every IPL match to bring more awareness to their latest product. This SUV is said to be priced at 12.69 Lakhs, with different variants offered. The highest price of this car is said to be 16.25 Lakhs.

Furthermore, Tata Motors is also taking strong steps to get into the electric car space with new models for Tiago and Tigor. This should be a significant shift in the market and is a much-needed change considering that some of the world’s most polluted cities are in India.

Tata Nexon is another car from Tata Motors that has been performing really well in the Indian market. This car is priced at 5.65 Lakhs, with different variants. The highest price is set at 8.59 lakhs. This car also comes in a diesel variant and is also available with manual and automatic transmissions.
