Guwahati Tea Auction Center (GTAC) established another world history by selling 1 kg of “Golden Butterfly” tea at a whopping Rs75,000 on Tuesday. The “Golden Butterfly” is a specialty tea manufactured close to Dibrugarh(Assam) by the Dikom Tea Estate.
This auction center has developed a picture in the world of tea where records are to be broken and history is to be rewritten,” were the words of GTAC Secretary Dinesh Bihani.
He said that the tea was bought by one of the oldest tea shops in Guwahati M/s Assam Tea Traders for their customers. They have bought a lot of specialty tea in the past auctions at record prices.
The GTAC gives all sellers a chance to sell their teas at remunerative rates. The finest teas are always in excellent supply and customers are always prepared to pay a beautiful price,” Bihani said, adding that the GTAC has become a world-renowned tea hub for quality and specialty tea.
Tuesday’s record broke a prior one of the Maijan Orthodox Golden Tea tips on July 31, collecting as much as 70,501 per kg. Maijan Orthodox Golden Tea is a sun-dried specialty tea that is hand-rolled.
We are truly living in a weird time where a mere kilogram of tea costs close to a lakh rupees. Specialists see a further surge in the auction prices later in the coming years.
