After a lot of controversies and a complete ban from India, Tiktok is still ruling the world. The app introduced the revolutionised short video concept in the world. Currently, Tiktok is not only the most popular app in its segment, but it is also the most downloaded non-gaming app in May 2021, as reported by Sensor Tower. Last month also, it ranked first among all non-gaming apps downloads.

Tiktok and Facebook Rank 1st and 2nd Among Most Installed Apps of May 2021

Tiktok, the Chinese short video platform, is on a record-breaking spree. The app has surpassed 80 million installs in May 2021 to become the most downloaded non-gaming app. Brazil and Douyin in China contributed the maximum to make Tiktok the most downloaded app with 16% and 12% of total installs respectively.

As per Sensor Tower analytics, Facebook ranks second among the top 10 most downloaded apps of May 2021. The social media platform recorded 53 million installs last month.

India and the US recorded maximum Facebook downloads in May 2021. India contributed maximum with a share of 27% out of Facebook’s total installs. The US with a share of 7% of total installs helped Facebook to reach the second position. In April 2021 also, Facebook occupied the second position among most downloaded non-gaming apps.

Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform releases the list of most downloaded apps every month with total estimated installs. As per the data, Tiktok leads on Google Play Store and App Store.

Sensor Tower creates this ranking based on the unique installs of every app in the interval starting from the first day and ends on the 30th day of every month. If an app has different versions like the lite app, full app etc, Sensor Tower counts all versions as a single app.

In April 2021, Tiktok recorded 59 million unique installs to reach at first position whereas Facebook was the second position holder with 53 million unique downloads.

Ranking of Remaining Apps in May 2021

Among the remaining most downloaded apps, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Messenger got third, fourth, and fifth position respectively. In April month also, Facebook-owned apps occupied the four positions except the top one.

Whatsapp has shown a strong comeback after the privacy policy controversy. Users have again shown immense trust in the instant messaging app.

Earlier, Signal and Telegram took advantage of Whatsapp’s negative publicity among the users. And, both platforms attracted an exponential user base. With the ninth rank among most downloaded app in May 2021, Telegram is still a popular choice among instant messaging app lovers but Signal have lost track. Dull user interface and a lot of bugs forced users to leave Signal, the most secured platform.

Zoom and Snapchat got sixth and seventh position among the most downloaded apps of May 2021.

With eighth ranking among the most downloaded apps of May, CapCut is the new entry. It is a video editing app that has got exponential growth due to its unique features for editing videos. Josh, an Indian short video app, ranks 10th in the Sensor Tower’s list of most downloaded apps of May 2021.
