Xiaomi, one of the largest smartphone makers globally, will no more launch any product with the Mi brand. The Chinese giant has decided to discontinue it. As per the latest reports, the Xiaomi brand will replace all future products carrying the Mi name.
About Mi Brand
In such a short time, Xiaomi has established itself as the leader among global smartphone makers. The firm offers smartphones for everyone, no matter the price point.
But to differentiate its products from one another, Xiaomi launches multiple sub-brands. Mi is the most popular among all. After launching its first Mi smartphone ten years back, Xiaomi has decided to discontinue the most popular sub-brand.
Technically, the smartphone was the first product under the Mi brand but it was related to it. The company’s first product was MIUI, its customized Android-based operating system software. It is one of the most popular custom ROM globally and currently has reached to twelfth version.
The change has already started with the company’s recently released MIX 4 smartphone. Xiaomi’s spokesperson further confirmed that upcoming products will also be launched with necessary changes.
Xiaomi not only sells smartphones, but it’s also popular for other products including the smart home, lifestyle, and computing categories, including televisions, laptops, refrigerators, air fryers, smartwatches, scooters, robots, hairdryers, and so much more. Most of these products carry Mi brands and they will also be changed in the future.
More Details about Mi Brand and Other Products
It was 2011 when Xiaomi brought its first-ever smartphone, the Mi 1. At that time, it was considered as the flagship phone with powerful specifications including Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon S3 chipset, 1 GB of RAM, and a 4-inch 854×480 resolution LCD panel.
From that time onward, Xiaomi continued launching new smartphones under the Mi brand. But, these phones were exclusively for China market. Later, Xiaomi hired Hugo Barra in 2013 who earlier worked with Google. Barra is the person behind Xiaomi’s expansion in the Asian market.
Mi 3 and Redmi 2 were the first two smartphones that were launched by Xiaomi outside of China. Later, Redmi became a separate sub-brand that is very popular in India.
In 2017, Xiaomi became the number one smartphone brand in India and it also dethroned Samsung in Europe to claim the top spot.
In 2021, the latest reports reveal that Xiaomi has become the smartphone leader in the global market. The decline in Huawei’s smartphone market, shortage of smartphone parts globally, Xiaomi’s advanced marketing strategies to handle the Covid-19 pandemic, and Xiaomi’s smartphone availability for all types of users are some of the major factors behind Xiaomi’s position as the leader in the smartphone industry worldwide. Currently, Mi, Redmi, and POCO are the three sub-brands of Xiaomi.
