- WhatsApp is going to show users advertisements in the near future. The company itself revealed the coming of WhatsApp ads at the 2019 Facebook Marketing Summit (FMC) in the Netherlands.
Last year, WhatsApp launched a few new features for users. For the Facebook-owned messaging platform, the year 2020 will be even more eventful as it plans to bring more and more new features to improve user experience. Status advertising is one of the key features WhatsApp will carry this year. Previously, the company also spoke about this feature.
WhatsApp is going to show users advertisements in the near future. The company itself revealed the coming of WhatsApp ads at the 2019 Facebook Marketing Summit (FMC) in the Netherlands.
Speaking of ads at FMC, the company said users will be able to see the advertiser’s name along with their related advertisements in the ads.
WhatsApp also stated that users can not see the image of the contact profile of the advertiser. The company also explained that by swiping up, users will be able to visit the ad. WhatsApp status ads will, therefore, work in the same way as Instagram stories.
The messaging platform has yet to publicly announce when it will start rolling out the status advertising feature. Given that WhatsApp is already working on the ad feature, we can expect the official launch very quickly. For both Android and iOS, the functionality will be available.

Ads are said to be part of WhatsApp Status, a feature that was launched a few years ago by the messaging platform. WhatsApp Status currently shows photos, videos, texts and other multimedia files uploaded by a friend. WhatsApp advertisements are going to work in the same way. WhatsApp advertisements are supposed to be recommended on the basis of their actions and value to users.
Ads will appear on WhatsApp Status and will be visible to users. As mentioned, the WhatsApp Status will just show the name of the advertiser and glimpse of the Ad. To view the entire Ad users will need to swipe up. WhatsApp ads feature will work similarly to how ads work on Instagram.
A couple of months ago, WABetaInfo conducted a poll on Twitter asking users whether they will “continue to use WhatsApp after the activation of the Status ads features?” The poll revealed that users are not happy with the fact that WhatsApp will soon bring ads to the platform. Some users also went up to the extent of saying that they will delete WhatsApp if there are ads on the platform.
