WhatsApp Has Most Active Users In India, Followed By YouTube In May 2020

  • WhatsApp has the most active users in India followed by YouTube & other Google Apps. True Caller is also top 10.

Here, We look at the applications with most active users in India during the time period of May 2020.

  • WhatsApp

WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, maybe second to Messenger in North America, but globally, it’s massive. As of early 2020, the app said it has more than two billion users worldwide, which is quite an impressive scope for an app that started out as a paid-for premium service.

WhatsApp’s best feature is that doing new chats and looking for updates is easy in the past. You can also see when to send and read messages and the pictures are just fantastic.

It is extendable to video and voice calls. You can start a call with one person, and then easily add other participants. For group, video calls the cap now is eight.

  • YouTube

YouTube is one of the highest-earning apps given its high viewership and ad revenues. YouTube generated nearly $5 billion in ad revenue over the last three months, Google revealed recently as part of the fourth-quarter earnings report from parent company Alphabet.

With cheap data rates, now Internet is reaching everywhere in India. This has given YouTube a new boost. One of the largest video libraries in world, YouTube has 270 Million active users in India in May 2020.

  • Google Chrome

Google Chrome is a web browser that is built by Google across platforms. It was first released for Microsoft Windows in 2008 and subsequently ported to Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android.

Google Chrome is by far the most used browser, accounting for more than half of all web traffic, followed by Safari in a distant second place.

It is hugely popular in India with close to $266 million active users in May.

  • Gmail

Gmail is probably the most popular and widely distributed email provider in the world. It has many useful features and, at the same time, is very simple in use. A highlight is the Online interface of Gmail. Most of the screen comes with a minimum toolbar for your inbox.

Gmail has over a billion users across the world and 215 million active users in India.

  • Google Drive

Google Drive is a Google-developed file-storage and synchronization service. Launched on April 24, 2012, Google Drive allows users to store files, synchronize files across devices and share files on their servers. In addition to a website, Google Drive also offers off-line apps for Windows and macOS computers and smartphones and tablets for Android and iOS.

Considered one of the best and easy to use cloud services, Google Drive has 212 Million active users in India.

  • Google Photos

Google Photos is a Google Developed photo sharing and storage service. It was announced in May 2015 and split from Google+, the former social network of the company. It has 184 million active users in India in May.

  • Facebook

Facebook tops in terms of social media usage and was the 3rd most downloaded app in Q1 of 2020. In recent times, Facebook has seen its monopoly being challenged by TikTok. Facebook has more than 1 bn userbases out of which 85% of daily active users are from outside US/Canada. India is the largest population on Facebook with over 179 mn users in May 2020.

  • True Caller

Truecaller is a  Swedish smartphone application that uses the internet to provide caller identification, call-blocking, flash-messaging, call-recording, Chat & Voice features. Users are required to provide a standard mobile cellular number to register with the service. It was plagued with data privacy concerns but has cleared most of it and has 161 million active users in India in May.

  • Google Maps

Google Maps is a Google-developed Cloud mapping tool. It provides satellite imagery, aerial photography, street maps, 360 ° interactive street panoramic views, real-time traffic conditions, and travel route planning. Including this, Google has 6 applications on the list.

  • Instagram

Instagram started as a virtual photo album but it has turned into major business mode on social media. With more business and influencers joining the platform, it is bound to grow in the coming times. More than 1bn people use Instagram and 500mn people use Instagram stories every day. It has 142 million active users in India in May.

Surprisingly, the most downloaded app TikTok stands nowhere close to these giants.

As we saw, the whole list dominated by Google with 6 apps followed by Facebook with 3 apps.
